Imani Akil, MFTi

Individual, Couples and Family Therapist
Marriage and Family Therapist Intern

Welcome. My name is Imani, and I work with children and adolescents, as well as adults, couples, and families in both individual and group therapy settings. Much of my work has been shaped by supporting children and teens through emotional and relational challenges, which has deepened my understanding of developmental stages, family systems, and the ways relationships influence growth and healing. This experience helps me recognize communication patterns, family roles, and the underlying dynamics that often impact the entire family system.

I strive to create a warm, supportive, and collaborative space where clients feel safe, heard, and respected. I believe therapy works best when people feel comfortable being themselves, and I approach each client with empathy, curiosity, and care. My areas of focus include emotional and behavioral concerns in children and adolescents, romantic relationship challenges, parent–child relationships, communication difficulties, stress, anxiety, depression, and major life transitions.

I am especially passionate about helping couples and families strengthen their connection, rebuild trust, and develop healthier ways of relating to one another. I also enjoy working with individuals who are seeking guidance through personal crisis and need a safe place to work through their toughest life’s experiences.

In my work, I draw from several therapeutic approaches to meet each person’s needs, including Bowen Family Systems, Experiential Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Psychodynamic Therapy. My goal is to meet clients where they are, support meaningful insight, and walk alongside them as they work toward lasting and meaningful change.

Scheduling and Communication
Clients may schedule appointments through our online scheduling portal or by contacting our administrative team by phone. Once an appointment is confirmed, a confirmation email will be sent to the email address on file. This email will include the telehealth session link and any required intake or consent forms. As a courtesy, reminder emails containing the telehealth link will be sent 48 hours and 24 hours before the scheduled session, along with an additional text reminder to the phone number on file.

If an appointment is rescheduled or the time is changed, a new confirmation email with a unique telehealth link will be sent. Previous telehealth links become invalid and should be discarded, as each session requires its own secure, session-specific link.
