Weena Wise, LCMFT, CPC

Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist

Author, Speaker, Certified Life Coach + Relationship Expert

Welcome to our practice. As the founder of Covenant Therapy Group, I’ve spent nearly two decades helping individuals, couples, and families transform their lives and relationships. My work has been featured in more than 40 major media outlets including NBC News, USA Today, Prevention, Mindbodygreen, Essence, Self, and Huffington Post. With over 20,000 sessions behind me, I’ve developed a clear, structured approach to preparing people for healthy love and repairing relationships that feel stuck, strained, or broken.

Therapy vs. Coaching — and Why I Offer Both

Therapy and life coaching share similarities, but the purpose and scope are different:

  • Therapy is designed to diagnose, treat, and heal emotional and relational wounds. It explores patterns, trauma, and deeper psychological concerns. By law, therapy services are limited to the states where a clinician holds a license — which for me includes Washington DC and Maryland.

  • Coaching, however, is future-focused and action-oriented. It supports people in building skills, confidence, clarity, and healthier habits so they can create the life and relationships they desire. Coaching does not diagnose or treat mental health conditions — which is why it can be offered to individuals all over the world without residency restrictions.

By offering both services, I’m able to support clients based on their needs, their goals, and their location — whether they want deep clinical healing, structured personal development, or relationship coaching to strengthen connection and communication.

My Approach

Whether I’m helping someone identify the root of long-standing patterns, preparing partners for a lifelong commitment, guiding a couple through crisis, or coaching a single person to redefine what love looks like, I create space for people to grow in:

  • Emotional awareness

  • Communication and conflict skills

  • Boundary-setting

  • Healthy attachment

  • Self-worth and self-trust

  • Relationship readiness and repair

Most people find me when past attempts to change — including previous therapy — haven’t worked. If your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are out of alignment with the life and love you want, I can help you make sense of what’s happening and take the steps toward lasting change.

Clinical Training & Modalities (Therapy Services)

When working in a therapeutic capacity, I draw from evidence-based approaches such as:

  • Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT)

  • Bowen Family Systems Theory

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Trauma-informed and attachment-based practices

My extensive background includes serving as an adjunct professor and clinical supervisor at the University of Maryland, and I am a Board-Approved Supervisor in Maryland for therapists seeking licensure.

Media, Speaking & Teaching

I am the author of PrePairing for Love and the host of The Wise Ones podcast. I’m also a regular guest on “The Kings of the Heart,” “The Griot’s Remedy,” and former relationship expert for WPGC and Radio One.

I regularly speak to local, national, and international audiences on relationships, emotional wellness, and faith-centered personal growth. I also moderate panels, facilitate workshops, and host retreats for organizations, churches, and community groups.

Payment + Insurance Information

While Weena is not an in-network provider for any therapy services with healthcare insurance companies, you may be eligible for reimbursement from your insurance company after attending therapy sessions. This means that you are responsible for paying the full fee at the time of each office visit; however, you may receive a portion of your payment back from your insurance provider after completing the appropriate steps. This applies to therapy sessions only.

Covenant Therapy Group accepts all major credit cards as well as FSA and HSA cards.

Scheduling and Communication
Clients may schedule appointments through our online scheduling portal or by contacting our administrative team by phone. Once an appointment is confirmed, a confirmation email will be sent to the email address on file. This email will include the telehealth session link and any required intake or consent forms. As a courtesy, reminder emails containing the telehealth link will be sent 48 hours and 24 hours before the scheduled session, along with an additional text reminder to the phone number on file.

If an appointment is rescheduled or the time is changed, a new confirmation email with a unique telehealth link will be sent. Previous telehealth links become invalid and should be discarded, as each session requires its own secure, session-specific link.

Sliding Scale Therapy Services

We understand that therapy is an important investment in your well-being and relationships, and we want to make it as accessible as possible. Our sliding scale program offers reduced-rate sessions for a limited number of clients who meet certain eligibility requirements. This program is designed for households with one source of income, an annual household income of $160,000 or less, and at least one dependent. We can accommodate up to two clients at a time, with each client eligible for up to two sessions per month at a reduced rate of $100 per session. This rate applies to both individual and couples therapy. If you believe you may qualify, please reach out to check availability—proof of income and dependent status will be required before scheduling. We are committed to providing compassionate, high-quality care while helping you manage the cost of services, and if the program is currently full, we’ll be happy to add you to our waitlist.
